Princess Kate, Nature and Recovery, how her message speaks to women recovering from cancer

You may have seen Princess Kate's recent video, where she speaks of nature as her sanctuary and a source of healing, which deeply resonates with me. As someone who has journeyed through cancer recovery, I understand the profound peace that the natural world can offer. During my own healing process, connecting with nature provided a sense of peace and renewal that was instrumental in my recovery.

In her video, Kate emphasizes the importance of reconnecting with nature, especially in our increasingly digital and fast-paced world. She describes spring as a season of rebirth and new beginnings, a sentiment that mirrors the transformative experience many of us undergo after facing serious health challenges. Her initiative, the "Mother Nature" series, aims to encourage others to find healing and growth through the natural world, a mission that aligns closely with my own as a cancer recovery coach.

However, it's impossible to ignore the contrasting media narratives that surround similar initiatives by different public figures. While Kate's video has been met with widespread support, it's worth noting that if Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, had released a similar video, the reception might have been markedly different. This disparity highlights the persistent double standards in media coverage, where the same actions can be interpreted in vastly different ways depending on who is involved. I read stories about these two very different women and am amazed at the judgement and sometimes vitriol that is directed their way.

Remember #bekind ? It seems that not everyone does.

As someone dedicated to supporting women in their post-cancer journeys, I believe it's crucial to recognize and challenge these biases. Every individual's path to healing is unique, and their methods of finding peace and strength should be respected and celebrated, not subjected to undue scrutiny and criticism.

Whatever you think about the monarchy, or the personalities involved, my heart goes out to Kate as she navigates post cancer life in the glare of intense media interest.

We can all take something from Kate's message about the healing power of nature is a reminder of the importance of finding personal sanctuaries that nurture our well-being. Whether it's through nature, art, community, or other means, embracing what brings us peace is a vital step in the journey toward recovery and self-discovery.

I am off today to walk in my local park, as I live in a city suburb, I appreciate the beauty of the gardens and huge trees. So calming and beautiful, and I can’t wait for my upcoming trip to the beach, now the sight and sounds of the waves I find really blissful….

Wherever you are, I hope that you can grab some moments of peace, and remember to continue to support and uplift each other, recognizing that healing is a deeply personal experience, and every path is valid.

Love from your friend and Cancer Recovery Coach
