Podcast Episode 124 – Confidence After Cancer with Gabby Mottershead

Everyone expects you to feel nothing but relief when cancer treatment ends.
But if you’ve ever sat on your sofa after that final hospital visit, wondering why you don’t feel joyful… you’re definitely not alone.

So many women tell me that after their last treatment, they expected fireworks — instead, they felt flat, scared, or strangely lost.
Sound familiar?

In this week’s episode of the Confidence After Cancer Podcast, I’m sharing my own story of what life was really like after treatment ended — and the hidden emotional challenges that often follow.

💭 The Unexpected Reality of “After Cancer”

When treatment stops, everyone around you exhales.
They say things like:

“You must be so relieved!”
“You can finally get back to normal now!”

But inside, you might be thinking:

“What is normal now?”
“Why do I still feel exhausted or anxious?”

This is the silent stage of recovery that no one prepares you for.
I call it “the invisible part of healing.”
On the outside, you look fine — but inside, you’re still rebuilding your mind, body, and spirit.

🌿 The Four Hidden Struggles After Treatment

In this episode, I unpack the four biggest challenges I see in my clients (and that I faced myself too):

1️⃣ Fatigue That Won’t Go Away

Post-treatment tiredness can last for months or years. It’s not laziness — it’s your body recovering from trauma. Energy management becomes your new superpower.

2️⃣ Identity Shifts

You’re no longer “the patient,” but not quite “the old you.” Many women feel a loss of direction or purpose. Coaching can help you reconnect with who you’re becoming — not who you used to be.

3️⃣ Guilt

Survivor’s guilt is real. It whispers, “Why did I survive when others didn’t?”
This guilt can push you into overworking or people-pleasing. Remember: you don’t need to earn your right to be here. You already deserve joy.

4️⃣ Fear of Recurrence

Every ache can trigger panic. You’re not alone in that fear — and there are ways to quiet the noise in your mind so you can live freely again.

🗣️ A Coaching Story: Finding Your Voice Again

One of my clients, a brilliant woman, returned to work after cancer treatment and felt invisible.
She’d lost her confidence and was afraid to speak up.

Through our coaching sessions, she reconnected with her inner strength, set clear boundaries, and eventually gave a presentation that earned her a promotion.
That’s what rebuilding confidence looks like — one brave step at a time.

✨ How to Start Rebuilding Confidence After Cancer

If you’re nodding along, please remember:
You are not broken. You’re simply rebuilding.

Here are a few gentle reminders:
💤 Rest is productive.
✍️ Journal what you’re proud of — not what you’ve done, but how you’ve grown.
🤝 Reach out for help — you don’t have to do this alone.
🦋 Thriving isn’t about bouncing back — it’s about moving forward.
