7 Steps to Self Love

7 Steps to Self Love

I’ve written before about how Self Love is the first step to healing your life. Really connecting with yourself, putting yourself first may be a habit you find hard at first, but I found these steps helped me, and I hope they help you too

1 Create a self- love ritual

I like to do this every Sunday evening. A time to consciously think about pampering myself and preparing for the week ahead.

A bubble bath, scented candles and some uplifting music help me to relax. Beautiful body lotions and oils, not rushed, but a soothing gentle self-massage help me have the best night’s sleep. Clean bedding and a calm, uncluttered room all help me to just unwind.

2 Respect your body

Treat yourself to healthy and nutritious food.  We all like to eat and drink things that we know are not good for us. No judgement here, just be mindful. I like the 80/20 rule – if 80% of the time I am eating well, then I can have a chocolate bar, or a piece of cake, just not every mealtime!

3 Connection

Find a tribe of supportive people, think about who you are spending time with. If the people around you don’t uplift you, then make wise choices. It’s not selfish to avoid some people – it’s self preservation – You know who I mean!

4 Compliment yourself

Reflect on what you are good at, what you do well. It could be little things like you smile at people and are good at giving compliments. Don’t dismiss your wonderful, positive attributes. You ARE special and you deserve to have a great life.

5 Declutter and get organised

I am not naturally a tidy person, but I know the benefits of a good decluttering session. Start small if you are overwhelmed by the thought of this, clean out one drawer, organise your make up, clean and organise your jewellery. Sort out your underwear drawer. All of these little steps help to calm my mind and make me feel more positive.

6 Don’t compare yourself to others.

‘Comparison is the thief of joy’ is such a true saying.  No matter how good someone else’s life looks like, you never know what they may be dealing with. Focus on getting your life how you want it.

7 Find your happy place

This could be a local park, your garden, anywhere you can go to think, to maybe listen to a podcast or some music, to read a book, or simply be in nature. Just relax.
